Montgomery County to Seek Millions More for Troubled Silver Spring Transit Center

    Members of the Montgomery County Council says it's time someone is held accountable for the Silver Spring Transit Center debacle. As we first reported on News4, the project is already over budget and now the price may be going up again. (Published Tuesday, April 2, 2013)

    The troubled Silver Spring Transit Center is already years behind schedule and millions over budget – and now the cost of the project is set to go up even more.

    Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will ask the County Council Tuesday for $7.5 million more to fund the project.

    The price tag for the project is already about $110 million.

    The additional money is for legal and consultant fees related to the delay of the project. Part of the money will be used for change orders.

    The massive building, which sits right in the heart of downtown Silver Spring, is said to have major structural issues. However, the developer of the project disputes those claims.
