Montgomery County Police Pull Cruisers for Inspections

Crown Victorias being inspected for steering problem

Montgomery County Police have begun inspecting the department’s 324 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor vehicles after a steering problem affected two cruisers.

The department and the Montgomery County Department of General Services started inspecting the vehicles on Monday.

Police say since July, two cruisers were affected by the problem that had the potential to cause the steering to fail during normal operation of the vehicle. There were no crashes are injuries during the incidents.

Of the 324 Crown Victorias ordered inspected, 303 of the vehicles are part of the marked cruiser fleet. Those vehicles are about 33 percent of the fleet of marked vehicles.

So far, 172 vehicles have been inspected and 127 have been returned to service without problems.
