Monifa Pendleton, 44, Arrested for Leaving Yorkie Inside Hot Car for 2 Hours

A 44-year-old woman is facing several charges after the dog she left in her hot car for two hours suffered heat exhaustion and was euthanized.

According to a news release from Anne Arundel County Police, officers responded to an Annapolis Petco location for a sick or injured dog Tuesday afternoon.

Police spoke with the dog's owner, Monifa Pendleton, who said she had forgotten she left her dog, a 15-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named Chloe, in her car for approximately 2 hours.

The dog underwent treatment at a veterinary clinic for heat exhaustion and stroke, but it was too late. Chloe's organs were shutting down and her quality of life was poor, police said, so she was euthanized.

Temperatures outside the car that day reached 88.8 degrees.

Pendleton, a resident of New York, is facing several animal abuse-related charges.
