Mom Who Left Baby on Side of Road Pleads Guilty

A woman charged with leaving her six-week-old daughter on the side of a road in Maryland has pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment.

Sandra McClary, 27, entered the plea Monday in county circuit court, said Anne Arundel County prosecutors. She was sentenced to time served and put on probation for five years, and must undergo drug and alcohol treatment and complete a parenting class.

According to charging documents, a bishop who lived in Pasadena, Maryland, found the 6-week-old baby in a carrier on the side of the road just before midnight July 4. The baby was in good condition after being on her own for about an hour.

According to charging documents, McClary said that when she got lost on the way to a party, she and her boyfriend had an argument. She said her boyfriend pushed her and that she drove off alone.

McClary called police at about 10 a.m. the following morning, saying the baby that had been found was hers. She claimed that the baby's father was supposed to have the child, but police say they traced her movements after tracking a part of a car's license plate spotted in the area where the baby was found.

Earlier this fall, prosecutors dropped assault charges against McClary's boyfriend because McClary, invoking the Fifth Amendment, wouldn't testify against him, and no one else could corroborate her account, The Capital reported.

Her public defender advised her not to testify in the case against Hall, The Capital reported.
