MoCo Police Shoot Bank Robbery Suspect

A bank robbery suspect is in grave condition after a shooting involving a Montgomery County Police officer in Damascus, Md.

Police said they were investigating two bank robberies in the area -- one at 9:30 a.m. at the PNC Bank on Middlebrook Road in Germantown; the other just before 10:30 a.m. at a PNC on Ridge Road. A lookout was issued after the second bank robbery, and an officer spotted the car and followed it.

Police chased the suspect down a dead-end street and into a cornfield, News4's John Schriffen. Among the tall stalks, police couldn't see the suspect, so they set up a perimeter around the field.

When the suspect emerged in the 26000 block of Bowman Acres Lane in residential Damascus, he drove toward an officer, who shot the suspect, police said.

The suspect was flown to an area hospital. He is also suspected in the Germantown robbery.

Police are investigating. The officer is on administrative leave.
