A man who suffered from dementia and was reported missing following a fire at an assisted living facility has been found, and he is safe.

Firefighters say the fire started early Wednesday morning in a bathroom inside one of the units at the Forest Side Assisted Living center on Military Road in Northwest D.C.

The sprinkler system came on and quickly extinguished the fire, News4's Megan McGrath reported.

The man was reported missing after the facility was evacuated and he wandered away from the scene. Authorities said the man was located a short time later and is not injured.

No other injuries were reported.
