Missing Rescue Dog Found

Sonja Heritage, of Fairfax Search Dogs, gives an update on the 3-year-old German Shepherd, missing since Thursday

An urban search and rescue dog who had been missing since Thursday, was found and returned to his handlers Saturday night in Bowie.

Vito, a three-year-old German Shepherd, was being trained to replace his father, Czaro, who had been deployed all over the world as part of Fairfax County's Urban Search and Rescue team. However, on Thursday, Vito wandered off while chasing a fox during the training session at Whitemarsh Park in Bowie.

That was the last time anyone saw Vito until Saturday night, when the dog was found near where he had last been seen. Fairfax County Police say the man who found Vito saw a news report about his disappearance before returning him to his handlers at a gas station.
