A 12-year-old girl who was reported missing in Greenbelt, Maryland, has been found safe, police said Wednesday.

Kidist Gianna Jayla Smith was seen leaving the Greenbelt Community Center at 11:30 a.m. Monday. A short time later, she was seen running down the sidewalk on Southway Road toward Greenbelt Road.

She boarded a Metrobus and was later seen exiting the Minnesota Avenue Metro station in Northeast D.C., News4's Tracee Wilkins reported.

Her parents, Kamla and Tobin Smith, said their daughter had no known connections to the area.

On Wednesday, police announced that Smith had been found safe and sound.

    No additional information was released.
