Former Miss Maryland USA Pleads Guilty

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Does a tiara lose some of its luster in jail?

A former Miss Maryland USA has pleaded guilty to obstructing a police investigation in a drug case.

Tia Shorts entered her plea Thursday in Montgomery County Circuit Court.

Shorts was crowned Miss Maryland USA in 2004. She was also named "Miss Congeniality" by her fellow competitors.

She had been charged initially with conspiracy to distribute cocaine and drug possession charges. Her boyfriend, his brother and their 67-year-old mother were also arrested in the case. At the time of their arrest, police said mother was found with a bag of white powder in her "bra area," according to the Washington Post.

Shorts will be sentenced in November. Both she and her attorney declined to comment Thursday.
