Michigan Murder Trial Ordered in Stabbing Spree

A man suspected in a three-state stabbing spree has been ordered to stand trial for murder in Michigan.

District Court Judge John Conover ruled Friday there was enough evidence to try 34-year-old Elias Abuelazam for the July killing of Frank Kellybrew.

A state police scientist testified that Kellybrew's DNA matched dried blood found on Abuelazam's shoelaces, which were found in Abuelazam's luggage as he tried to flee to Israel in August.

Fourteen people were stabbed last summer in and around Flint, northwest of Detroit. Five victims died. Similar attacks were reported in Ohio and Virginia.

It was Kellybrew's death that convinced police a serial killer was likely on the loose. Abuelazam so far faces three murder and six attempted murder charges in Michigan and an attempted murder charge in Ohio.
