Metrobus Route Changes Take Effect Sunday

Revision includes changes to schedules and stops

Starting Sunday, a slew of Metrobus route changes take effect for the Washington Metro area.

The changes are part of Metro’s $5 million investment to help riders and improve bus service, s include more MetroExtra buses, schedule adjustments, and added or removed stops.

Metro says more than 150,000 customers will be affected by the route changes.

This is the second phase of changes to Metrobuses. Later in the fiscal year, Metro will introduce more MetroExtra service along New Hampshire Avenue and new, midday service on Veirs Mill Road, among other changes.

Some of the changes that will take effect Sunday include:

  • Conversion of the 16F and 16Y routes on Columbia Pike to limited-stop MetroExtra service.
  • Utilization of the limited-stop blue MetroExtra buses on the 28X route on Leesburg Pike.
  • Schedule adjustments on the MetroExtra J4 College Park-Bethesda route, the Y5, Y7, Y8, and Y9 routes on Georgia Avenue, Maryland, and on REX, Richmond Highway Express line.
