Metro to Close Pentagon Station South Entrance Monday

Metro to replace all three escalators

The south entrance of Metro's Pentagon station will remain closed for the next several months so crews can replace the three escalators.

Metro says the current escalators were installed 18 years ago, and the company that made the escalators has since stopped producing parts, making repairs increasingly difficult.

The new escalators will be similar to those recently installed at the system's Dupont Circle station. The replacement project is expected to last through the Fall. The Dupont Circle escalator replacement began Feb. 1, 2012 and wrapped up Oct. 21.

The North Entrance will remain open during the escalator work.
