New Metro Website Leaves Some Riders Searching for Info

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority unveiled a new website that has many users still searching for information.

Metro said their new site, wmata.com, is designed to be more mobile friendly. They said the trip planner is easier to use, and the site has more features than the old site.

However, riders who used a search engine to get information from Metro ended up on a page that said, “Oops! This is awkward! You’re looking for something that doesn’t seem to exist.”

“I tried to look up service disruptions this morning, and when I clicked on the link for Google, I found that the search link didn’t work for me,” said Metro rider Colin Gounden. “I had to get redirected, so it was a little bit complicated for me.”

“Every time I go to try to find a route, it takes me to a page that says, ‘Oops! There’s been an error,’” said Metro rider Jaimie Francis. “I just started using Metro again, because I moved to a new neighborhood. So, it comes at kind of a bad time for me in that case.”

Metro said they tested out the new website with users for a couple of months. They said search engine can take several days to catch up with design changes.

“If you use the search bar on wmata.com itself, this is not an issue,” the agency said in a statement.
