Metro Unveils New Passenger Safety Videos

Metro has released new safety videos that show passengers what to do in a smoke or fire emergency.

The minute-long videos are available in English and Spanish, and will air on local television stations as public service announcements.

In the video, a Metro Transit Police officer explains how to evacuate a station or train during an emergency. Other topics covered include: recognizing the third-rail, how to use on-board intercoms and the location of emergency signage.

The ads will begin airing next week.

A longer version of the video is available online.

"We will continue to take steps to improve safety and emergency preparedness for our riders in the weeks and months ahead," said Metro Interim General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Jack Requa.

The safety videos come nearly three months after an arcing rail filled a tunnel with smoke, resulting in the death of a woman and the hospitalization of dozens of people.
