Dulles Toll Road Rates Could Surge by 2040

Financial consultants who oversee Washington’s two major airports say tolls on the Dulles Toll Road could rise to as much as $19.25 each way by 2040 to help pay for the extension.

However, the consultants say those rates could be lower if the project can get a special federal loan that has a lower interest rate.

Some local and state officials are pointing to a recent decision to build the airport stop underground, rather than above ground.

They say building an above-ground station would have saved hundreds of millions of dollars in construction costs.

According to officials, they’ve always planned to raise fees on the toll road to pay for the project.
