Metro Cancels Farecard Giveaway

Metro apparently forgot to check the calendar before scheduling its $5 farecard giveaway this week. A spokeswoman told News4 that they decided to reschedule because of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah.

Metro riders on the Blue and Yellow lines showed up expecting the free $5 farecards WMATA is planning to pass out as part of their "Hello Yellow" campaign.

The campaign is an effort to convince Blue Line riders that a transfer to the Yellow Line can cut travel time during rush hour.

The new Rush Plus schedule has been criticized for running fewer Blue Line trains during peak hours, which leads to crowding and a longer commute.

Metro was expected hand out the farecards at the Pentagon and L'Enfant stations from 7:30 to 9 a.m. today, tomorrow, and Thursday -- they haven't announced the new dates yet.
