Metro Begins 7-Day SmarTrip Card

The new fare card will cost $35 dollars

Metro is launching a new SmarTrip card that could make your ride cheaper and save you some time.

The new fare card will cost $35 and work as a seven-day, "short trip" pass. While the plan is not new, it was previously only available on paper fare cards, forcing commuters to stop at fare machines.

Riders with SmarTrip cards can now buy and load their seven-day passes online. The flat fee of $35 allots users unlimited trips up to $3.50 during peak hours; and during off-peak times, riders can travel as far and as many times as they would like.

Any balance over $3.50 inccurred during peak times will be paid by the rider.

Sales of the paper version will end May 31, 2013.
