Men Shot While One Was Holding Small Child in Southeast D.C.

Two men were shot and injured in Southeast D.C. Monday evening while one of them was holding his three-year-old son.

Police sources say two other men pulled up to a BMW in a Ford Taurus and fired at least 21 gunshots in the 3800 block of Q Street SE, near the intersection of Fort Davis Street. The Taurus then sped off, leaving both adult victims with gunshot wounds.

The man who was holding his son dropped him when he was shot. The child was not hit by gunfire, but received some cuts from the fall.

All three are expected to recover.

Nearby resident Alma Sharpe was sitting on the couch in her living room, holding her 10-month-old great-grandson at the time of the shooting. She heard several shots fired right outside her doorstep.

"Frightening. Scary," she said.

Her great-grandson Seth was also frightened.

"He jumped and I jumped, and I kept him close to me," Sharpe said. "And less than a minute or so -- bang, bang, bang, bang.... So many little kids in this neighborhood. I hope police catch whoever it is."

After the shooing, Sharpe called her granddaughter Lamika Bacon and told her what happened. Bacon drove to the crime scene, but had to wait an hour before police let her through.

"My heart is pounding," Bacon said, "because I realize something could have happened to my baby, or my grandmother."

Police are going to talk to both the victims at the hospital to see if they can provide some more information about what happened.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact them.
