Men Possibly Hit by Lightning Emerge from Comas

Two men who may have been hit by lightning have emerged from their medically induced comas, according to family members who spoke to The Capital.

John Conner Benson, 19, and Alex Steele, 23, remain on the critical care floor at the Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Ron Steele, Alex’s father, said it is a miracle how the two have progressed. He said they were surprised to see them come out of the coma on Friday.

Both men regain consciousness and spoke in short sentences.

They were severely injured by a possible lightning strike Wednesday on a beach along the Severn River. Emergency crews found them unconscious outside a home on River Drive in Annapolis.
