Hundreds gathered Monday morning to remember a Charles County teacher who was shot and killed last week.

Students of Chris Hoefert were among the mourners at a memorial service at the Saint Joseph Church in Pomfret, Md.

Hoefert, 24, was a second-year teacher at North Point High School in Waldorf, Md.

He was shot to death last Tuesday when a man he apparently knew stopped his car alongside him at the intersection of Middleton and Billingsley Roads in the White Plains area.

Police said the man got out and opened fire, shooting Hoefert twice. He then shot and killed himself.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
