Frequent breakdowns of D.C. Circulator buses are causing headaches for passengers in the nation's capital.
City transportation officials tell The Washington Post that as many as one-third of the Circulator's buses aren't operating on any given day because of mechanical problems. That means longer wait times for customers.
The Circulator's minimum target is that 80 percent are picked up on time. In June, 67 percent of passengers were picked up on time, which was slightly better than in April when just 52 percent were.
Sam Zimbabwe, a top D.C. Department of Transportation official, says the Circulator is not meeting its own ``targets for service and reliability.''
Officials plan to replace some of the older buses next month and add more vehicles to the fleet.
