Maryland Group Studies Access to Guns by Mentally Ill People

Task force studying whether current state law and policies should be changed

In the wake of several high-profile mass shootings across the country, a Maryland task force is examining the legal ability of mentally ill people to obtain firearms.

The group is scheduled to meet for the first time on Tuesday in Baltimore.

The task force is studying whether current state law and policies need to be changed. The group is also looking into laws and policies concerning access by law enforcement officers to mental health records.
