Woman Charged in Exorcism Deaths to Claim Insanity

An attorney for a woman accused in the deaths of two of her children in Germantown, Md., said they will pursue the equivalent of an insanity defense, The Washington Post reported.

Monifa Sanford, 21, and Zakieya Avery are charged in the January deaths of the two toddlers. Two of Sanford's other children were injured in the attack.

Under Maryland law, a person can only be found not responsible for a crime if he or she didn't understand what they were doing was wrong.
