As teenage driver's ed students rejoice, car owners in Maryland start worrying about their bumpers.
As of Tuesday, parallel parking is no longer a requirement on the Maryland driver’s license test.
According to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, if drivers can complete a two-point reverse turn in addition to the other test components, they’ve done enough to earn their license.
That doesn’t sit well with some of Maryland’s driving instructors.
“It just doesn't measure parking,” said Tom Pecoraro, president of I Drive Smart. “[Parallel parking] measures space management and control of the vehicle at low speed."
But the decision is good enough for the rest of the DMV. Virginia and D.C. don't require parallel parking during the road test, either.
