A judge has sentenced a Landover, Md., man to two life terms in prison in the fatal stabbing of a man and the attempted murder of his new wife.
The Prince George's County State's Attorney's office said 36-year-old Lawrence Covington was sentenced Wednesday. A jury found Covington guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder and other charges in May.
He is convicted of killing Maurice Fountain, whose wife, Genea Simms Fountain, was injured but survived the March 2009 incident.
Prosecutors said Covington was talking to the woman's stepfather, LePrince Hall, at their Upper Marlboro home about a business matter when the couple left and when they returned he bound them, took their wedding rings and cut their throats.
Covington was found not guilty in Hall's murder, who prosecutors say also was fatally injured.
