The parents of a 17-year-old boy in intensive care still have questions after viewing the surveillance video of his fall from a balcony at McKinley Technical High School in northeast D.C.
"He came to school in one piece, but when we were called, he was at the trauma center," his mother said.
Keon Blake's parents were joined by police and Councilman Harry Thomas Jr. at the school to view the video, only two frames of which caught the McKinley senior's fall, News4's Derrick Ward reported. No one else is seen in the video.
Just after 6 p.m. Friday, as the homecoming dance was being held in the school gym, Keon was in a different part of the school. Police said he was "uncontrollable or possibly under the influence." When approached by an adult, Keon ran and fell over a railing, authorities said.
Those who've seen the video said it doesn't support allegations that Keon was under the influence. His parents insisted Keon didn't use drugs.
The boy's father said Keon is doing better but remains in intensive care. He is expected to make a full recovery, but it will take a long time.
