Maryland Substitute Teacher Jose Pineda Accused of Inappropriate Contact With Three More Girls

Montgomery County Police are asking anyone who may have been the victim of a substitute teacher accused of inappropriate contact with several students to come forward after nine more girls alleged that they were touched.

The new allegations came from current middle school students, but police say the acts did not rise to the level of a criminal offense. While no charges will be filed, authorities are concerned about the amount of contact 50-year-old Jose Pineda had with children.

Montgomery County Police Captain Paul Starks said the girls came forward after hearing about the charges Pineda is facing.

Pineda was charged in October with third-degree sex offense for an alleged incident Sept. 30 at Roberto Clemente Middle School. A 12-year-old girl said he touched her inappropriately several times.

Since then, two other 12-year-old girls have said they were similarly touched multiple times by Pineda at Ridgeview Middle School near the end of the 2013-14 school year, police said. One said she requested to go to the bathroom to get away from Pineda. The other said she assumed the first time was an accident until it continued to happen.

News4’s Kristin Wright spoke to parents who are outraged.

Pineda also is accused of touching a 12-year-old girl at Forest Oak Middle School in 2004, police said. Now 23 years old, she told police she reported the sexual assault to her mother and that the principal was notified. A school district spokesperson said the principal has retired and it's unknown if he reported the allegations to police.

The girls were in either sixth or seventh grade at the time of the alleged sex offenses.

Several students say they have had inappropriate contact with a substitute teacher who was arrested last month for sex abuse of a minor. News4’s Jackie Bensen reports.

Pineda was charged Friday with three more counts of third-degree sex offense and three counts of sexual abuse of a minor. He is being held on $150,000 bond and has a bond review Monday.

Pineda worked as a Montgomery County Public Schools bus driver from 2000 to 2003, as a substitute teacher from 2003 to 2006 and again as a substitute teacher from March 2013 to September 2014.
