A University of Maryland student was arrested earlier this week after making arrangements with an undercover D.C. police officer posing online as the father of a 12-year-old girl to have sex with that girl.
Akshay Rajshekar, 18, of Salisbury, was arrested Monday afternoon when he arrived at a prearranged location for a meeting in the District of Columbia.
According to charging documents filed in D.C. District Court, Rajshekar initially met the officer through Craigslist on March 18, and the two communicated throughout the following week via Yahoo Instant Messenger.
Court documents reveal Rajshekar used his actual name as his display name on Craigslaist and wrote to the undercover officer, "im 18 and love very young too...I've never hand any experience and I like 'young' girls." The defendant allegedly went on to write, "I have been trying to meet other pedos online with similar interest."
Rajshekar also told the undercover officer his "ideal girl would probably be an 8 year old."
Rajshekar was already facing charges of possession and distribution of child pornography following his arrest last fall by the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office. He was released on bond and allowed to return to school.
According to the charging documents, Rajshekar was arrested with a backpack that contained a box of condoms and a laptop computer. He had previously agreed to bring a hard drive with explicit photos to the meeting.
