According to the Census Bureau, 8.2 percent of Maryland’s population are Hispanic, and 2.1 percent of the population is from El Salvador.
Those numbers translate to roughly 470,000 Hispanics, and 124,000 of those people are from the Central American country.
Mexico is the second-largest Hispanic population in Maryland, with 88,000 people or about 1.5 percent of the state’s population.
Maryland has seen an increase in its total population by about 477,000 from 2000 to 2010. More than half of that growth came from increases in the Hispanic population.
