A track coach at a Montgomery County high school was accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl who was on his team.

Scott D. Spear, 47, of Rockville, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of a fourth-degree sex offense, police said.

Spear, who also coaches basketball at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Md., coached the girl for three years and taught her in the eighth grade at Julius West Middle School, which is also in Rockville.

Spear had sex with the girl at a Rockville home in April or May and took her back to the same home the following night and again had sex with her, police said.

The student told someone about it in November, News4’s Shomari Stone reported.

Spear was placed on administrative leave, a county schools spokesman said.

A bond hearing may be held Friday.
