Cheese vs. Crabs, Ham Wager on Redskins/Packers Game

Some friendly wagers are being made by politicians on the Washington Redskins/Green Bay Packers playoff game on Sunday.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan wagered a friendly bet with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker over the Redskins' playoff game against the Packers. Hogan bet one bushel of Maryland blue crabs, complimentary Old Bay seasoning, and a case of Flying Dog beer to Walker's Wisconsin cheese and sausage, Andes Candies, and Leinenkugel beer.

"I was already looking forward to watching the Redskins beat the Packers this Sunday," said Hogan. "But now, I have something extra to look forward to when that shipment from Wisconsin gets here. Of course, nothing beats steamed Maryland blue crabs."

Walker doubled down, offering the same Wisconsin treats to Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe. For his part, McAuliffe would have to send Smithfield ham, Virginia wine, and Virginia peanuts to Wisconsin if the Redskins lose.

The mayors of the respective cities are also involved in some friendly betting. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt are wagering a signature item from each city on the outcome of the game.

If the Redskins win, Schmitt is sending Cannery Public Market cheese curds and wear a Redskins shirt at a service event. If the Packers win, Bowser will send up some half-smokes and wear a Packers shirt at a mentoring event.

"My home team has been on a roll lately, and I look forward to cheering them on to victory against Green Bay,” Bowser said in a release. “And when they do win, I look forward to enjoying some of that fine Wisconsin cheese while saying, You like that!”

The Redskins play the Packers on Sunday, Jan. 10 at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.
