Marine Corps Marathon Course, Times Changing Due to SafeTrack

The Marine Corps Marathon may be changing its course and timing for 2016, due to the Metro Safetrack program.

The marathon will be making "significant announcemen" on Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. about the MCM Weekend being held from Oct. 28 to Oct. 30. The courses for the 41st MCM and MCM10K, a new event timeline and a transportation plan are expected to be revealed.

The MCM said the Safetrack program, designed to evaluate and repair specific sections of the train tracks at different times in 2016, is resulting in an alteration of marathon weekend events. They said traditionally, Metro is the primary access for runners and spectators attending the event.

Metro has not listed what will be closed during the marathon weekend.

The event will be held in Arlington, Virginia, and a lottery was held for those wanting to run in the event. It is listed at the sixth largest marathon in the United States, with 30,000 runners from all 50 states, D.C. and more than 50 countries from around the world.
