Multiple Fatalities in SUV Crash Near Beltsville

At least three people are dead in an SUV accident in Prince George’s County, Maryland that authorities called "horrific."

The one-vehicle crash happened around 2:15 a.m. on southbound BW Parkway near Powder Mill Road.

According to Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue, several of the 8 passengers inside the SUV were ejected.  An adult and teenage female were pronounced dead at the scene, and a 3-month-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Five others were taken to local hospitals with serious and possibly life-threatening injuries.

U.S. Park Police and Maryland State Police assisted in the rescue and recovery effort.  "Prince George’s County Firefighters and Paramedics responded to a horrific crash scene this morning that was troubling for even the most seasoned first responders," authorities said in a release.

The crash shut down southbound lanes of the Parkway for hours while crews investigated the scene and tried to reconstruct the accident.

Road crews also had to remove trees that were severely damaged from the accident.
