Police arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing Saturday night in Manasass.

Officers responded to the 7600 block of Somerset Lane for the report of a stabbing around 9 p.m.  At the scene, they found Edwin Noe Enamorado Matute, 22, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Police said on Saturday evening, Enamorado Matute got into a verbal dispute with a known acquaintance, Elvin Yobex Guzman Lopez, 21, in the area of Parkland Street and Old Centreville Road.

Investigators said the dispute escalated to violence when Guzman Lopez allegedly pulled a knife.  Witnesses said Enamorado Matute tried to run, but tripped.  Investigators said Guzman Lopez leapt onto the victim's back while he was on the ground and stabbed him multiple times.  Witnesses intervened to stop the incident, according to police.

Enamorado Matute was carried back to his home on Somerset Lane by witnesses, where police and then paramedics were called.

At a nearby hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Police said Guzman Lopez, of no fixed address, was arrested shortly after without incident.
