Man Uses Sleight of Hand to Steal $21K Ring in Maryland

Authorities say a man used a sleight-of-hand trick to steal a $21,000 ring right under the noses of employees at a downtown Annapolis jewelry store.

Annapolis Police say the theft occurred around 10:30 a.m. Thursday at La Belle Cezanne on Main Street.

Authorities say a man walked into the shop and chatted up employees. As they spoke, the man was able to put a diamond and sapphire white gold ring into his coat, authorities said.

Only after the man left did employees realize the ring was gone.

The ring is similiar in style to Princess Diana's engagement ring, which her son's wife, Duchess Kate, now wears.

Police are passing out a surveillance photo of the suspect, who's in his mid- to late-50s and about six feet, once inch tall. He was wearing dark-rimmed glasses, a grey sweater over a collared shirt, dark pants and shoes, and black wool coat.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective John Murphy at 410-268-9000, ext. 7268.
