Man to Serve 18 Months for Striking EMTs While Driving Drunk on Beltway

A man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for striking and injuring two volunteer Montgomery County emergency medical technicians while driving drunk on the Beltway.

In February 2015, the medics were on the right shoulder of the inner loop of I-495 at River Road when Maximillano Curcho lost control of his truck and ran into the medics.

Thomas Schryver, 26, and EMT Sydney Marshall, 19, with the Glen Echo Fire Department were seriously injured.

A judge exceeded the typical sentencing guidelines of probation to one year in prison, giving Curcho three years with all but 18 months suspended.

Curcho will then have five years of supervised probation, with conditions including an ignition interlock device on his car and alcohol treatment.

Curcho has two previous alcohol related offenses.
