A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after he was struck near a Chillum, Md., intersection Monday morning.

Police said the man was crossing Chillum Road near Queens Chapel Road at 6:20 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Chillum Road.

The victim was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived at the scene. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

It appears the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk at the time of the accident, investigators said.

The driver remained at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time.

The southbound side of Chillum Road was closed while police investigated.
