Man Sentenced for Killing Md. State Trooper

Cyril Williams sentenced to life behind bars without possibility of parole

The man convicted of killing a Maryland state trooper was sentenced to life with no parole Thursday morning.

News4’s Tracee Wilkins reports Cyril Williams shot and killed Trooper Wesley Brown in June 2010, after being kicked out of a Forestville Applebee’s for urinating on a customer.

Brown, who was off duty at the time, was working as a security guard at the restaurant to raise money to take the kids he mentored on a trip.

Carl Peoples, the victim’s patrol partner, said in court Brown had removed Williams from the restaurant because of his disorderly behavior. The defendant pushed Peoples once they were outside but Brown stepped in before Williams was arrested.

Peoples said Brown decided to give the defendant another chance instead.

Williams wasn’t so forgiving and returned a short time later with a gun, Wilkins reported. He shot and killed Brown outside.  Brown died in his partner’s arms.

The judge told Williams that his vengeful act deprived the community of a young public servant and crusader. He was sentenced to life without parole.

“We intend to be very harsh with individuals who harm law enforcement officals who give their lives everyday to protect ours,” said State's Attorney of Prince George's County Angela Alsobrooks.
