Police in Anne Arundel County are investigating a bizarre case of road rage in Gambrills.
Officials say the incident started when a 44-year-old man and his wife got out of their Ford Explorer and exchanged seats at a red light on Route 3 about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The exchange led to an exchange of words with the driver and passenger of a PT Cruiser. At the intersection of Route 3 north and Riedel Road, the driver of the Explorer got out to confront the pair in the PT Cruiser, according to police.
The passenger in the PT Cruiser, 23-year-old Ross Brandon Sudbrook, opened his door and stabbed the 44-year-old man.
The man returned to his Explorer, containing his wife and two children, and gave chase.
He caught up with the PT Cruiser in front of the Honda Power Sports dealership, where he rammed the other car into a drainage ditch, a witness told News4. Then, the driver, still bleeding, got out of the Explorer and began to punch the accused stabber, the witness said. The man held Sudbrook subdued until police arrived.
Sudbrook was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 22-year-old female driver of the PT Cruiser and two passengers in the Explorer were also transported and treated with non-life threatening injuries.
Sudbrook, of Baltimore, Maryland, was charged with assault and reckless driving.
UPDATE: The 44-year-old stabbing victim, Jeffrey Neil Furlough, has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault following further investigation into the incident.
