A man suffered serious injuries when he was stabbed while confronting someone breaking into his car, Arlington County police said.

The victim was sitting in his office in the 3300 block of Wilson Boulevard when he saw someone breaking in to his vehicle after 1:30 p.m., police said. He went out to confront the man and an altercation ensued.

The man stabbed the victim several times before fleeing on Washington Street. He may have jumped into a running white contractor’s or construction van, police said.

The victim, a 31-year-old man from Montgomery Village, Md., was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital.
