Man Shot and Killed in Olney

Police are trying to figure out who shot and killed a man on his way home from work in Montgomery County.

Police found 41-year-old Punyasara Gedara with a gunshot wound in the 3400 block of North High Street in Olney Monday afternoon.  He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Gedara had won a lottery recently to immigrate to the United States from his home country of Sri Lanka.  He had just started a job at a nearby Subway sandwich store.

Police said Gedara worked in the area and was walking to his home on nearby Bantry Drive.

Police say a older model beige Toyota Camry was seen leaving the scene at the time of the shooting.

Authorities believe the killing may be tied to a suspicious death in Olney on Saturday.  An 81-year-old man, Nazir Ahmed, was found dead in his home, with signs of fould play in his house.
