A man is in critical condition after he was apparently the victim of an accidental shooting in Falls Church late Sunday night, police say.

Fairfax County Police received two 911 calls around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. They found the victim at the Fields apartment complex in the 2900 block of Stillwood Circle in Falls Church, near Gallows Road.

The victim's injuries started out as non life-threatening but are now considered life-threatening, authorities said Monday morning.

The victim and the shooter know each other, police said. They are classifying the incident at the Fields apartment complex as an accidental discharge.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting incident.

Police have not released information on the shooter. They said there is no threat to public safety.
