Man Shot By Police in Anne Arundel Co.

Officers were responding to domestic dispute

Police in Anne Arundel County are investigating a shooting in which an officer killed a man following a domestic dispute.

Authorities say that county police officers were called to a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of Frost Valley Lane in Gambrills shortly before 6 p.m. Friday. When they arrived at the scene, officers heard a woman screaming inside a house.

One of the officers entered the home and encountered a man who was later identified as Gary Petrie. An altercation occurred between Petrie and the officer, who eventually drew his gun and shot Petrie in the upper body.

Petrie was later pronounced dead at Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

No further information about Petrie or the original dispute has been released. The officer is only being described as a four-year veteran of the department.
