A man is facing assault charges after a shooting shut down traffic near the Verizon Center.

Two people got into a fight near the McDonald's on Seventh Street NW Monday morning, police said. One of them pulled out a gun and wound up shooting himself on accident.

He went to an area hospital and was later released to police custody.
