Man Rescued From Capsized Boat

Stranded for nine hours on the Severn River

The U.S. Coast Guard says a man has been rescued after hours atop a capsized sailing vessel in the Severn River.

A bulk freighter pilot spotted the waving man on top of the overturned boat Sunday morning about one mile north of the Annapolis anchorage and contacted the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard, Maryland Natural Resources Police and Anne Arundel County fire department dispatched boats and helicopters to search for the man, who was found sitting atop his vessel. The Coast Guard says the man who was reported to have been atop the boat for nine than nine hours was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore suffering from hypothermia.
