Man Killed in Southeast D.C. Was Kidnapped From Maryland

A man killed in southeast D.C. Wednesday morning had been kidnapped Tuesday night and held for ransom.

Andre Simmons Jr., 28, of Bowie, Maryland, was riding a moped in a parking lot near his home when two got out of a car, held him at gunpoint, zip-tied him, put him in the car and drove away, according to charging documents.

The men made several calls to Simmons’ family demanding ransom money.

His family dropped off $7,000, according to charging documents, but he was shot multiple times and died in an alley in the 600 block of Atlantic Street SE before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

“There’s too many of us dying out here,” southeast D.C. resident Stephon Green said.

One suspect, 25-year-old Darin Carlyle Moore, barricaded himself inside a house in Bowie before he was arrested Wednesday night. He was charged with kidnapping.

A judge ordered him held without bond.
