Man Killed in Crash a Week Ago; Family Searching for Answers

The family of a man who died in a crash last Saturday is mourning him -- and hoping someone steps forward to identify the other driver involved.

"He was everything, he was my world. It's just hard to even talk about him, with him not being here," said Iyesha Thomas, mother of Enrico L. Thomas.

Thomas, 23, of southeast D.C., was killed in a crash in southeast D.C. on Nov. 21 just after 8 p.m.

He was heading to his uncle's house, the family said at a vigil held Friday night.

Police say a driver of an SUV was turning from East Capitol Street onto Southern Avenue when the car Thomas was driving collided with the SUV.

The driver of the SUV fled from the scene without leaving any information, police said.

That driver is described as a black male, approximately 5’10”, with a light complexion, wearing dark clothing and white tennis shoes. He was last seen carrying a white bag.

Thomas' family has set up a GoFundMe site to raise money for Thomas' funeral expenses. His funeral is planned for Saturday morning.

"Everyone knew that Rico was the life and light in every room," the site reads. "He wanted to make you laugh. He wanted you happy."
