Man Killed in Anne Arundel Car Crash

Head-on collision happened Saturday morning

A man died Saturday of injuries sustained in a two-car accident in Anne Arundel County.

The accident happened shortly before 6 a.m. on Chesapeake Beach Road near Sansbury Road in Friendship. Investigators say that a Ford Taurus driven by 61-year-old Ronald Lignelli of Chesapeake Beach was driving east on Chesapeake Beach Road when it crossed the double yellow lane lines into the path of a Ford Expedition driven by Andre Mackall, 33, of Owings.

The force of the head-on collision knocked both vehicles into the westbound lane. When Anne Arundel and Calvert County Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene, the Expedition was on its side and on fire. Bystanders pulled Mackall from the truck before he was engulfed by flames. He was taken to Prince George's Trauma Center, where he is listed in stable condition.

Lignelli was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
