Man Critically Injured in North Potomac House Fire

A man in his 20s suffered smoke inhalation and possible respiratory burns after his North Potomac home caught fire early Tuesday morning.

Fire officials say the man and his mother live in the home on Settlers Landing Way. The son heard the smoke detectors going off at about 3 a.m. Tuesday and woke up his mother.

Both got out of the home safely, but the son was transported to an area burn unit. He is in critical condition.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming from the basement  and first floor of the home.

Fire officials believe an electrical problem started the fire. The home suffered over $500,000 in damage.
