Man Injured in Police-Involved Shooting in Lanham

A man is in custody at an area hospital after he was injured in a police-involved shooting early Wednesday morning in Lanham, Md., Prince George's County Police said. 

Ricky Lamounte Reid, Jr., 21, will be charged with handgun and theft charges, according to police.

An off-duty officer in a marked car was in the 6700 block of Green Haven Road around 12:45 a.m. when he noticed a suspicious parked car with two people inside.  According to police, Reid's gun fell to the ground when he was ordered out of the car. The officer ordered Reid to raise his hands, but Reid allegedly reached for the gun. The officer fired his weapon, striking Reid, police said.

Reid was transported to an area hospital; his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The officer was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave.

Police say the gun the suspect was carrying was reported stolen in Virginia.
